Venice calls itself the Shark Tooth Capital of the World, and it earns the name: fossilized shark teeth wash up along its beaches, especially at Caspersen Beach south of town. The Venice Fishing Pier reaches out into the Gulf at Brohard Park, and the historic downtown, laid out in the 1920s, is lined with Mediterranean-style buildings, shops and restaurants along Venice Avenue.

North of Venice, Osprey and Nokomis lead to Casey Key, a narrow island of beach homes. To the south, Englewood and Manasota Key offer a quieter, more old-Florida beach stay, and North Port sits inland near I-75. Rentals across this stretch lean toward single-family homes, canal houses and low-key beach condos, a good fit for longer stays and anyone who wants space over nightlife.

    Venice rental questions

Where is the best place to find shark teeth near Venice?

Caspersen Beach, south of downtown Venice, is the best known spot, and Venice Beach and the beaches on Manasota Key turn them up too. Look along the shell line at the water's edge, especially after a storm or a strong tide.
