Destin grew up as a fishing village on the East Pass, the channel where Choctawhatchee Bay meets the Gulf, and it still calls itself the World's Luckiest Fishing Village. The harbor is lined with charter boats and restaurants, and just inside the pass, beside the US-98 bridge, the shallow Crab Island sandbar fills with anchored pontoons and swimmers on summer afternoons.
Holiday Isle is the strip of land between the harbor and the Gulf, mostly condos with the beach on one side and the boats on the other. East of town, Henderson Beach State Park keeps a long stretch of dunes undeveloped, and past it the Crystal Beach area along Scenic Gulf Drive mixes beach houses with smaller low-rise condos. This is the spot for anyone who wants to be on the water, not just next to it.

How do I get to Crab Island from a Destin rental?
Crab Island is only reachable by water. Most guests rent a pontoon or take a shuttle boat from the harbor. Some bayfront rentals have their own dock, so ask the owner before you book if that matters to you.
